Help SIAA get the right to Independent Advocacy written into the Social Care (Self Directed Support) (Scotland) Bill

The Scottish Parliament is currently developing new legislation to give  people more control over their social care. This will mean that people  will be able to decide what support suits their needs and gives them the best quality of life.

Unfortunately as it stands the proposed legislation does not include the right to access Independent Advocacy to support them through the  process.

Many people are concerned about not having a right to access Independent Advocacy which they feel they will need to support them express their  views and wishes.

The SIAA are asking people who support the inclusion of Indepenendent  Advocacy in the bill to help us demonstrate how important it is for  service users and carers. To do this we are asking as many people as  possible to send this message to the Public Health Minister.

You can download a letter to Michael Matheson MSP, Public Health Minister, who has responsibility for this legislation here:

http://www.siaa.org.uk/content/view/241/33/

The letter or email should reach him by no later than 27 August 2012 so that he receives it before the next scheduled debate on this legislation.

If you would like any help or any further information about this please contact the SIAA at enquiry@siaa.org.uk  or phone 0131 260 5380
