About UPDATE Disability Information Scotland

UPDATE is Scotland’s National Disability Information Service. Our main objective is to improve the quality of life of disabled people and carers in Scotland, primarily by enabling information providers to offer accurate, relevant and accessible disability-related information.

Formed in 1999, UPDATE is user-led, a national voluntary organisation, a recognised Scottish charity and a company limited by guarantee providing a wide range of services both to information providers and individual disabled people in Scotland.

UPDATE promotes the rights of disabled people, their families and carers to have access to reliable, impartial and helpful information on relevant services, when it is needed. Being able to get the right information at the right time means that people are better informed about their options and creates potential for the greater social and economic involvement and independence of disabled people.

Our key aims are:

  • To provide organisations and agencies throughout Scotland with a full range of  reliable disability related information that is relevant to Scotland
  • To provide subscribing member organisations and agencies with cost-effective central support and resources that facilitate good practice and help to build capacity
  • To provide members of the public throughout Scotland with general disability information
  • To provide members of the public with contact details of relevant services in their local area or to national specialist support organisations, where appropriate
  • To encourage and support good practice in disability information and advice services

If we don't know, we know who does.
